Introduction
Routes

A major public consultation exercise was carried out in late 2001/early 2002. Detailed brochures were distributed to thousands of local residents, who were asked for their views on route options. The independent report on their views can be read on the reports page. The web pages created for the consultation have been archived here for reference purposes. The decision on whether to pursue the routes to West Bridgford routes has been deferred, awaiting further reporting on development proposals in Rushcliffe and the Government commissioned A453 and A52 multi-modal studies.

NET to West Bridgford would:

  • Help to limit traffic growth, congestion and pollution on the south eastern approaches of West Bridgford and Nottingham.
  • Provide a high quality alternative transport system where bus improvements would be limited by road capacity and problems caused by congestion.
  • Assist in the regeneration of the south side of the inner City area e.g. the Waterside Regeneration Zone and the east Meadows.
  • Provide good links to Nottingham Forest and Notts County football grounds and to Trent Bridge cricket ground.
  • Improve transport links for residents to employment and training opportunities and destinations in West Bridgford, around Trent Bridge and in the City Centre.
  • Support the Meadows and West Bridgford shopping areas.
  • Make it easy to switch between different forms of transport by linking with Nottingham Station, local bus services and Park and Ride.
  • Provide better integration between transport and land use by serving the possible new residential and employment development site at Sharphill Wood and provide a Park and Ride for A606 traffic OR
  • Provide a link to the proposed Gamston Park and Ride site to help relieve congestion on the busy A52 (East).
