Via
Coronation Avenue and the former railway line. The route would run around
Iremonger Pond by using a widened flood bank alongside Coronation
Avenue before rising to join the former railway line. The embankment
could be lowered approaching Wilford Lane to allow a crossing
at street level. South of Wilford Lane, the embankment could
be removed to provide enough width for the tram, a footpath
and screen planting.
Via Coronation
Avenue, the former railway line, Wilford Lane and Ruddington
Lane. The route would run around
Iremonger Pond by using a widened flood bank alongside Coronation
Avenue before rising to join the former railway line. The embankment
would be lowered approaching Wilford Lane to allow a crossing
at street level. The tram would then run along Wilford Lane
and Ruddington Lane with other traffic.
The route would
have two tight bends, but it is separated from other traffic
and would have a journey time over two minutes quicker than
other options.
Operation would be more reliable than other
options as the route is separated from other traffic. Passing
straight across Wilford Lane would have little traffic impact.
Stops would provide good access for Wilford
and Compton Acres. Fastest route which would be most attractive
to car users.
Cost to build is similar to the pink route
and lower than the red route. With higher passenger levels
and minimal traffic impact, the route would achieve higher
value for money.
Small area of land required near the South
Nottingham and Wilford Industrial Estate.
Significant adverse impact on former railway
line through loss of habitat and impacts on wildlife as well
as a reduction of amenity, which would require mitigation.
The route would not touch the Wilwell Farm Cutting SSSI, although
there could be an indirect impact. Existing levels of flood
defence would be maintained at Coronation Avenue.
No significant impact
on street parking would be expected.
Option Instead
of using the former railway line between Coronation Avenue and
Wilford Lane, the route could run alongside it, at the edge
of playing fields.
Indirect route with five tight bends. Journey time would
be over two minutes slower than the orange route.
Risk of unreliable operation and impact
on other traffic through stretches of on-street running. More
difficult crossing of Wilford Lane.
Stops would provide better access to South
Wilford and the east of Silverdale. The route would be less
accessible for residents of Compton Acres. Slower route, which
would be less attractive to car users.
Passenger levels lower than orange route
and therefore the route would achieve a lower value for money.
Property acquisition would be necessary
at the Wilford Lane/Ruddington Lane junction. Possible effect
on gardens and forecourts along these roads.
Significant adverse impact, but over shorter
length, on former railway line through loss of habitat and
impacts on wildlife as well as a reduction of amenity, which
will require mitigation. The route would not touch the Wilwell
Farm Cutting SSSI, although there could be an indirect impact.
Existing levels of flood defence would be maintained at Coronation
Avenue.
There would be some
impact on street parking.
Option Instead
of using the former railway line between Coronation Avenue and
Wilford Lane, the route could run alongside it, at the edge
of playing fields.
Via Main
Road and Ruddington Lane. The tram would use existing
roads with other traffic.
Direct route but
low speeds particularly along Main Road due to bends and visibility
problems for traffic emerging from side roads and driveways.
Journey time would be over two minutes longer than the orange
route.
Risk of unreliable operation and impact
on other traffic through stretches of on-street running. Crossing
of Wilford Lane would impact on existing junction.
Stops would provide slightly better access
to Wilford and the east of Silverdale but the route would
be less accessible for residents of Compton Acres. Slower
route, which would be less attractive to car users.
With passenger levels lower than orange
route, this option would achieve a lower value for money.
Property acquisition would be necessary
at the Main Road / Wilford Lane / Ruddington Lane junction.
Possible effect on gardens and forecourts along these roads.
Some adverse effects on the character of
Main Road, and direct impacts on the Wilford Village and Wilford
House conservation areas. Impact on former railway line would
be limited to the southern section between Ruddington Lane
and Wilwell Farm Cutting. The route would not touch the Wilwell
Farm Cutting SSSI, although there could be an indirect impact.
